St. Valentine's Day

DSC05202This festival has experienced the transformation from pagan to Christian.  Its predecessor, Lupercalia, was a Roman festival for love and fertility, which became Christianised to commemorate Saint Valentine in later ages.  In the legends, Saint Valentine was beheaded as a defender of love on 14 February.  Thereafter people began to mimic him to send love notes on this day, to express affection to their beloveds.
